Two Kittens Shipped 100 Miles Without Motherboard

It’s too early in the week for Caturday, but when it comes to a story about kittens shipped by accident in a box of computer parts, who cares, right?

According to ABC 10 News in San Diego, the two newborn kittens were approximately two weeks old and were accidentally boxed up and shipped approximately 100 miles from Hollywood, California out to Chula Vista in a Cox Communications semi-truck.

“They were kind of very, very lucky that they didn’t fall out of it in transport or when we were unloading the truck,” said Cox employee JC Collins, who found the kittens. “When I first saw them I knew they were very, very young.” Luck is right. If Collins hadn’t discovered the two kittens, their fate would have undoubtedly been a much more tragic one.

Collins then called his nephew, who works as an investigator for the San Diego Humane Society and SPCA. The two mini mewlers apparently still had their umbilical cords attached to them when they were shipped off. Workers at the Humane Society have named the little kittens Mouse and WiFi.

As for how the kittens got shipped in the first place? The theory right now is that the mother had the two kittens and left them in the box for safety, but then they were boxed up and shipped off. In the end, things worked out quite well for the kittens, since the San Diego Humane Society has one of the few round the clock kitten nurseries in the United States.

“Most shelters don’t have the resources to be able to provide the around the clock care that kittens need, “said Kelli Schry, who works for the SD Humane Society. According to ABC, because of this lack of available care, many abandoned kittens are euthanized.

Mouse and WiFi will live at the nursery for a few weeks before being moved to a foster home. At eight weeks, the kittens will then be spayed and neutered and then put up for adoption.

With such a heartwarming story behind them, there’s no doubt these kittens will find themselves in a loving home soon enough. Hopefully this time one it will be one that doesn’t drive around California.

To find out how you can adopt a rescued animal, contact your local Humane Society or Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA). Organizations such as these are also usually in need of loving foster homes for animals.
