Country Musician Kevin Sharp Dies At 43


It’s a sad day in country music. Kevin Sharp, a man who publicly battled cancer, has died at the age of 43. Sharp, who won his battle with cancer in the 1990s prior to becoming a well-known hit country artist passed away on Saturday night.

According to Kevin Sharp’s website, the country singer died due to complications from past stomach surgeries and different digestive issues. As far as his accomplishments in the music industry, Sharp was known for his hit song “Nobody Knows” which was his first number one hit on the Billboard Top 100 chart.

In 1989, after several tests were performed by doctors Kevin was diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma, which is a form of blood cancer. His original complaints stemmed from dizziness and fatigue before he was diagnosed. At the time the musician wasn’t given much of a hope for recovery and went through two years of chemotherapy and several radiation treatments, which made him lose his hair permanently.

Through the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Kevin was able to fulfill his dream by meeting music producer David Foster, who has helped produced hit singles for artists like Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Jennifer Lopez, Christina Aguilera, and The Bee Gees.

After Sharp met the producer, the two developed a strong bond and friendship, which aided the country musician when he started to shop his demo around in the mid 90s. David Foster helped the musician secure a deal with Asylum Records based in Nashville.

Kevin Sharp’s debut album “Measure Of A Man” was released in 1996 and went on to sell well, going Gold by selling 500,000 copies. This is the album that brought on his well known single “Nobody Knows,” which is a country version of a song that was originally done by Tony Rich Project.

In 1997 Sharp had two other singles that were top hits, “She’s Sure Taking It Well” and “If You Love Somebody.” He followed those singles up with another album called “Love Is” in 1998 and then decided to leave the label that signed him. In 2005 the musician signed a new deal with indie Cupit and released another album called “Make A Wish.”

His last single was the 2011 hit “Let Me Rock You To Sleep.” Before he passed away Kevin Sharp gave back to Make-A-Wish Foundation. In addition Sharp toured the U.S. as a motivational speaker.

Kevin’s family has asked if those who want to make a donation in the musician’s honor to donate to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
