Media Briefs: Layoffs at Macmillan, CBS

jobless

More layoffs in media to start the week, with cuts coming at book publisher Macmillan and CBS.

The new CBS cuts of around “low two figures” are on top of cuts announced last week (which included Last.fm) and affected mainly management positions.

Variety reports that CBS Paramount Executive VP Maria Crenna, as well as the studio’s comedy senior VP Brian Banks are out, along with “several mid-level and lower staffers.”

Macmillan Publishing cut 64 jobs and consolidated its children’s publishing arms into a single “Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group.”

According to Media Bistro, the cuts will be spread over different arms including Farrar, Straus, and Giroux, Picador, and St. Martin’s Press, among others.
