Brooke Shields Joins ‘The Addams Family’

Model and film star Brooke Shields, who is easily remembered for her role in the 1980 film, The Blue Lagoon, returns to Broadway June 28, taking part in the musical comedy The Addams Family.

Based on the bizarre and beloved family of characters created by cartoonist Charles Addams, The Addamses are a satirical inversion of the ideal American family; an eccentric, wealthy bunch who are unaware that people find their strange delight in the grim and gruesome strikingly out of the ordinary.

Shields, who is no stranger to the stage herself, succeeds Bebe Neuwirth, who shed the role that she created on June 26. Brooke stars opposite Tony Award winner Roger Rees (Nicholas Nickleby), who plays the master of the Addams household in the popular musical, Gomez.

Rounding out the “family” are Brad Oscar as Uncle Fester, Jackie Hoffman as Grandma, Rachel Potter as Wednesday, Adam Reigler as Pugsley, Zachary James as Lurch, Adam Grupper as Mal Beineke, Heidi Blickenstaff as Alice Beineke and Jesse Swenson as Lucas Beineke.

“I am delighted to be joining The Addams Family this summer. When the producers asked me to come see the show a few months ago, I found it to be wonderfully entertaining, funny, clever and even touching, and I knew immediately that I wanted to be the next Morticia, following the amazing Bebe Neuwirth. I can’t wait to join Roger and the wonderful cast,” said Shields, whose past Broadway performances include, Chicago and Caberet.
