The FDA says Zi Xiu Tang Bee Pollen is dangerous.

FDA Warns Zi Xiu Tang Bee Pollen Is Extremely Hazardous To Consumer Health

The FDA issued a warning that Zi Xiu Tang Bee Pollen, marketed as a product for weight loss and body reshaping, is extremely hazardous to consumer health. The FDA has suggested that anyone using the bee pollen from China discontinue use immediately. According to the FDA, Zi Xiu Tang Bee Pollen contains at least one potentially harmful drug that is not listed on its label.

The FDA reports testing multiple Zi Xiu Tang Bee Pollen products for dangerous ingredients not listed on the products’ labels. The tests concluded that every product tested, including those that claim to be “genuine” and “anti-counterfeit,” contained one or both of the following undeclared drug ingredients: Sibutramine and Phenolphthalein. According to the FDA:

Sibutramine – a controlled substance that was removed from the market in October 2010 for safety reasons. The product poses a threat to consumers because sibutramine is known to substantially increase blood pressure and/or pulse rate in some patients and may present a significant risk for patients with a history of coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, arrhythmias or stroke.

Phenolphthalein – a chemical that is not an active ingredient in any approved drug in the United States. Studies have indicated that it presents a cancer-causing risk.

“Products that contain hidden drugs pose a real danger to consumers,” the FDA’s Carol Bennett stated in response to the Zi Xiu Tang Bee Pollen concerns, according to Science World Report. “This is especially true when the products have names that mislead consumers into believing they are safe and natural.” Zi Xiu Tang Bee Pollen is manufactured by Guangzhou Zi Xiu Tang Biotechnology. This brand of bee pollen products has been purchased online, in retail stores and at spas. Science World Report said that anyone who has been using the bee pollen product from China should seek medical attention at once.

RTT News reported that the FDA may issue warning letters to distributors or take more serious action such as as seizures, injunctions, and/or criminal charges. The FDA urges health care professionals and consumers to immediately report any adverse events from Zi Xiu Tang Bee Pollen to the FDA’s MedWatch program by completing and submitting the report to the FDA online or by faxing a downloadable form to 1-800-FDA-0178. The FDA has already gotten reports that Zi Xiu Tang Bee Pollen may have caused anxiety, chest pains, diarrhea, heart palpitations, increased blood pressure, increased heart rate, insomnia, seizures, and suicidal thoughts.
