Jared Leto Wants Everyone To ‘Love Who You Want To Love’ [Video]
Just because Jared Leto has won countless awards and performed in front of millions of adoring fans doesn’t mean he isn’t worried about the rest of us.
Instead of joking about who he is or isn’t dating these days, The 30 Seconds to Mars frontman used his appearance at the 2014 MTV Movie Awards to tackle a very serious subject. Leto took a moment to remind everyone that AIDS is still a very serious problem around the globe, an epidemic that still requires our attention.
“We’ve made a lot of progress in the battle against AIDS, but it’s not time to celebrate just yet. There’s no cure, the epidemic rages on. But here’s to the hope that one day, we’ll put an end of this plague, and the world will rejoice, knowing that no one will ever have to suffer the indignation of this sickness again, nor the intolerance, the fear or the prejudice that lives alongside it,” Leto said after taking home a trophy for Best On Screen Transformation.
Jared continued, “Love who you want to love, live how you wish to live and never let anyone ever stop you from turning your dreams into your reality. To those of you out there who have ever felt injustice because of who you are or who you love, I stand here in front of the world with you and for you.”
Of course, this is some pretty heavy material for the MTV Movie Awards crowd. Considering the evening’s other events included Rita Ora ripping off Zac Efron’s shirt, Jared Leto’s speech seemed a little out-of-place. If he’s hoping this message reaches the younger generation, then he certainly picked the right venue.
Since Leto received a fair amount of press these days — the guy is frequently covered by The Inquisitr — it’s good that he’s using his star power for a good cause. Of course, that doesn’t mean everyone is entirely focused on how Jared wants everyone to change the world and love who they want.
For instance, sources who are more concerned with celebrity love lives than global epidemics recently dished that Leto is presently pursuing socialite Amber Atherton. Not surprisingly, this insignificant sliver of gossip doesn’t come from anyone associated with either party.
“Amber’s secretly been dating Jared for a while now. Every time he comes to London, which is often, they see each other. He’s been pursuing her for a long time so he’s over the moon. They love going for dinner at Mayfair’s Arts Club,” the source said.
Regardless of how you feel about Jared Leto and his artistic endeavors, you have to give the guy credit for trying to spread an important message to the younger generation.
