Introducing Inquisitr.com/Extra: because we love funny pics

As we’ve branched out into new spaces, one of the areas receiving interest has been funny pictures. We don’t run many each day, sometimes one or two, sometimes up to six (the number goes up on weekends), and while being mostly well received, they’re also a lot of fun doing.

For every picture we run here at The Inquisitr, there’s 2 or 3 I’ll run on my FriendFeed account that don’t make the cut, and another 50 that are looked at but never posted. Supply isn’t a problem, only space and the need to balance funny pics with the rest of our content.

Introducing Inquisitr.com/Extra, our new funny pics blog.

Extra will be the place we park pics we think are funny or may have appeal that don’t make the front page here at the Inquisitr. The mix will include LOLCats, fluffy animals, demotivational posters, Engrish, Fail pics and anything else that might be a worth a post. We know that not everyone will like every pic, but we’d hope in a day that you’d find something that makes you smile.

The intent isn’t to do 100 pics a day, but we’ll be aiming for around 6-10 per day, sometimes more (the tentative max cap is 24). The content from Extra is separate to the main feed, so if you’re not interested in viewing a pile of extra pics you don’t have to, although likewise there’s a brand new feed if you’re looking for a laugh or a bit of light relief.

As part of the launch we’ve also added a copyright policy for The Inquisitr. The problem with many of the pics doing the rounds at the moment is knowing where they came from, and where attribution may or may not be due. It’s near on impossible given the forums and emails we get these pics from to know where they originally came from, however if you do claim copyright or want attribution (presuming you own copyright or you created the image) we’re happy to work with you in amending any we miss, or if you’re not willing to work with us, we’re committed to working with the DMCA and Australian copyright law where applicable.

A hat tip to Kyle Brady for directly inspiring the idea, and to Mona Nomura, FriendFeed’s queen of funny pics for helping us test the site prior to launch.

We hope you enjoy it even half as much as the fun we have in finding and posting the pics.
