Cameron Diaz Doesn’t Know If Anyone Is ‘Naturally Monogamous’

Over the years actress Cameron Diaz has dated plenty of A-list stars, including Justin Timberlake, Matt Dillon, Jared Leto, and Alex Rodriguez. So it’s surprising that Diaz would have a rather unorthodox idea about relationships and the state of being in a monogamous relationship. If her most recent interview with InStyle is believed, Diaz doesn’t think being in a monogamous relationship is natural for people.

The Other Woman actress, who is currently promoting the film along stars Leslie Mann and Kate Upton, opened up about her thoughts on relationships for the May edition of the magazine.

Diaz told the magazine:

“I don’t know if anyone is really naturally monogamous. We all have the same instincts as animals. But we live in a society where it’s been ingrained in us to do these things. A lot of people chase after it because they’ve been told, “This equals happiness.” They chase it, they get it and then they find out, “Why did I think this was going to make me happy? I’m miserable.”

Of her relationships and overall experience in love, Cameron notes her age and seems to have a positive outlook on what she has been through in life.

“I’m 41, I’ve been through everything, OK? I’m grateful for all of it – whether it was something quick and passing or something that lingered too long.”

This isn’t the first time Cameron has taken a controversial stance, or has offered out a very brassy approach to talking about a taboo topic. Late last month Diaz told UK’s US Weekly that infidelity is extremely common and something that everyone will experience.

“Everybody has been cheated on,” Diaz told the UK’s OK! Magazine. “Everyone will be cheated on. “I can’t fix that. I don’t know how. I don’t have any judgment on anybody. I don’t know how to fix the problem.”

In addition to her comedy The Other Woman, Cameron Diaz will star in a bona fide hit in July opposite her Bad Teacher co-star Jason Segel. The latter film, Sex Tape, is a raunchy comedy about a couple who try to liven their marriage by filming a sex tape, and soon after realize that their cloud account has uploaded and synced their risqué tape on all the iPads they own, which also includes all of the iPads they gave away for Christmas to their relatives, friends, and a creepy mailman.

The Other Woman opens in theaters on April 25, 2014.
