Shenmue Creator Yu Suzuki Leaving Sega

If you were at any point a Sega fan, you’re likely to be familiar with Yu Suzuki. He created beloved Sega franchises such as Shenmue, Virtua Fighter, Out Run and a host of other great Sega titles. After nearly 30 years of service at Sega, Yu Suzuki will be leaving later this year.

His departure from Sega doesn’t mark his exit from the gaming industry, however. In an interview with Gamasutra, Suzuki explained that he’ll continue to work with Sega as an adviser, but his primary focus will be creating games under his own development studio, YS NET.

“I’ll be leaving my current job at Sega this September, and after that point I’ll remain on as an adviser,” he said in the interview.

It’s a bummer that the man behind some of Sega’s most beloved titles will be parting ways, but at least we know he’ll continue making games. It just won’t be Shenmue 3, sadly.
