Rick Ross Adds Girth To Fat Joe Track With Guest Verse on “Another Day” [Audio]

There’s something to be said for consistency, and that’s why we always lend an ear whenever Rick Ross lends his voice to a track. Ross doesn’t disappoint on his new collabo with Fat Joe, either, turning in a solid guest spot on “Another Day,” a down-beat, jazzy joint also featuring French Montana and Tiara Thomas.

“Another Day” came our way via BackSeatPolitikz, and it sees Rick Ross and Joe teaming up on one of Joe’s first releases since he finished up a three-month bid for tax evasion, a fact Ross references in his guest verse. That consistency we were talking about earlier is on full display as Rick brings the same cadence, decadence, and delivery to “Another Day,” waxing excessive on a “New seven series charcoal gray Beamer” and name dropping the imagery we’re all a bit used to when it comes to them that’s living the high life off (supposedly) lowlife means. It’s the same sort of flow Ross brought for Kanye’s “Devil in a New Dress,” and that is in no way a slight.

Rick Ross has been popping up in the news quite a bit, of late, with his most recent release, Mastermind, debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart just last month. That marks Rick’s fifth No. 1 debut in his career, a fact one would think could put Ross into the never-ending discussion of rap’s all-time greats. The name Rick Ross doesn’t tend to make the list, though, something Ross notes in “Another Day” in pointing out that he’s got “five gold joints and still gets no love.”

While Rick Ross is definitely leveraging his two biggest assets – cadence and voice – Joe actually steals the show on the track by conjuring his inner Tupac. With its plodding tempo, the whole track has the feel of ‘Pac’s “Krazy” off The 7 Day Theory, and Joey Crack doesn’t try to hide his influence. “My n***a Li’l Troy hit the bank, said he need cash. Seen him on the news; I guess he forgot the ski mask,” sounds like it could have been cribbed from All Eyez On Me, and his “Joe Crack cares, even if no one else cares” is a definite nod to “Keep Ya Head Up.” We’ve got to say, though, that Ross puts in a better guest spot than ‘Pac ever got from any of the Outlawz.

Besides Rick Ross and Joey Crack, “Another Day” sees solid input from its other contributors. French Montana and Tiara Thomas’ vocals add to the laid-back vibe of the StreetRunner/Macho TS-produced track, though the consensus we’ve seen around the net is that French’s bit could have been left off without much lost from the whole.
