Bob Saget has been discussing the acts of debauchery that took place behind the scenes of the beloved sitcom, Full House.
Saget starred as Danny Tanner, the widowed father of three who recruits his brother-in-law and best friend to assist him with the raising of his children, in the ABC comedy which ran from 1987 until 1995.
But his new memoir, Dirty Daddy, reveals that the behind-the-scenes antics were outrageous, and he even ended up sleeping in the same bed as his co-star John Stamos after a heavy night of debauchery in Las Vegas.
Saget is renowned for his risqué comedy performances, and he has now admitted that his perverse sense of humor often came out during shooting for the show.
In his book, Saget admits that he was often scolded by the parents of the children on Full House for his behavior, as well as producers. This included drawing penises on scripts and showing them to other actors, while he also threw a cup of coffee onto a set of high voltage lighting switches that could have then become engulfed in flames.
Saget also used to make sexual gestures with a four-foot-tall rubber doll that used to work as a stand-in for the twins when they weren’t on set.
“I couldn’t help it,” Saget recalled. “The whole show for me was like a beautiful Jekyll and Hyde experience. Being silly helped us survive a super-clean -cut show that at first mostly got panned but then in retrospect became part of family-television humor.”
Saget confirmed that he even tried nitrous oxide, in the form of Whip-Its, which was meant to go on Michelle’s birthday cake during a scene, while on-set. “We were laughing, paranoid to be doing something so dumb,” he noted. “I guess we got high, don’t think so though. It was hard to tell.”
The comic also revealed that after a trip to Las Vegas to watch an Elvis impersonator with Stamos, he ended up getting so drunk that he was put to bed by the actor. “He went to bed soon after. Next to me,” he wrote. “When I woke up the following day I realized… I had just slept with John Stamos.”
However, he was still always there for the Olsen twins, Mary-Kate and Ashley who got their start in show business playing Michelle Tanner on the show, and he even changed their diapers on more than one occasion.
“Cameras were rolling an one of the young ladies had made a poop, which had to be removed or we would have been holding a child with a smashed-poo-filled diaper for a long scene,” he writes. “A very long scene if you’re smelling poo the whole time.”
