Krispy Kreme Introduces Pie Doughnuts, Hot Light App


Many already love the taste of those delicious Krispy Kreme doughnuts. Now, the company has expanded its options into the pie category. That’s right. You can get the taste of a pie in the shape of a doughnut, according to a post from The Wall Street Journal.

Krispy Kreme announced that the company is now offering Key Lime Pie and Caramel Apple Dutch Pie doughnuts now until May 18 at select locations in the United States and Canada.

Krispy Kreme’s Key Lime Pie Doughnut is filled with key lime and custard filling, and topped with graham crumbles and key lime icing.

The Caramel Apple Dutch Pie Doughnut comes with a chunky cinnamon apple filling and is topped with caramel icing, a crunchy streusel, and a dollop of cinnamon apple filling.

The Krispy Kreme Key Lime Pie Doughnut is also available at select grocery chains, mass merchants, and convenience stores.

LA Magazine is hoping Krispy Kreme won’t stop at just these two offerings, and suggests a few more possibilities.

One would be a Strawberry Rhubarb Pie, which contains a fruit filling and sweet pink icing on top.

The second is the Chocolate Silk Pie, which comes with a chocolate mousse-like filing and dark chocolate glaze on top.

The third is Peach Pie, which would be filled with peaches and possibly have a glaze and crumble on top. The article suggests this would be “great under a scoop of vanilla ice cream.”

And for those who want to know when Krispy Kreme has pulled a fresh batch out of the oven, the company has introduced a way to get notifications sent directly to your phone. The Business Journals reports that Krispy Kreme has launched a new app called Hot Light, which allows users to know when doughnuts are “hot off the line.” This app is available for both iPhone and Android users.

The new Krispy Kreme app also allows users to get directions to a nearby store, and when a Hot Light is turned on at their “favorite location,” according to the app’s website.

Back in March, The Inquisitr reported that Krispy Kreme saw a 6.7 percent increase in company same-store sales and a 9.9 percent increase domestic franchised stores. The company also surpassed the $1 billion mark in system wide sales for the fiscal year.

Krispy Kreme currently has a goal to open 1,700 new stores by 2017.
