Man Throws Shoes at Bush (video)

man throws shoes at bush

US President George W Bush had an interesting reception at a press conference in Iraq Sunday when a journalist decided to throw his shoes at him.

Iraqi journalist Muntazer al-Zaidi hurled two shoes at President Bush while shouting “It is the farewell kiss, you dog.”

President Bush, not always known for his quickness with words showed skill during the attack, managing to duck as both shoes were thrown.

The soles of shoes are considered the ultimate insult in Arab culture. President Bush laughed off the incident, saying: “It doesn’t bother me. If you want the facts, it was a size 10 shoe that he threw”.

When President Bush made an unannounced visit to Iraq last December 14, Sunday, something happened and it is when he was having his news conference to the Prime Minister of Iraq an Iraqi an journalist named Muntadhar al-Zeidi took off his shoes and hurled them at the President. He exclaimed, “This is your farewell kiss, you dog!” just as he hurled his shoes at the President. In Arabic culture hitting or throwing his or her shoes to someone so the soles it hit them is considered as a great insult. Just to give you an idea, in 2003, before the statue of Saddam Hussein was toppled, and during and after, the statue was pelted with numerous pairs of shoes. The idea here is that they only do it to people they really hate. People from around the region have been hailing the actions of al-Zeidi as heroic, even though Bush laughed it off as a “sign of a free society” – kind of like having a bevy of financial options, such as payday loans. He was quickly arrested, and taken into custody, and the footwear was taken into the evidence locker. He currently awaits trial. Click to read more on Payday Loans.

  20. Sorry, this is hilarious,

The other thing that I think is worth mentioning is that Bush really ought to consider the fact that this is not just someone throwing their shoes at him but actually a cultural insult. Although, this man should not have thrown his shoes at him, our president still doesn't understand or appreciate the “culture” in Iraq. He just shruggs it off as just someone throwing their shoes, nothing more. How sad.
