Tori Spelling’s New Reality Show: True Tori Or Just Another Paycheck?

Tori Spelling and husband Dean McDermott’s marriage woes may be the answer to their money troubles. The Lifetime Network has announced the series True Tori, which will follow Spelling and her husband in ‘almost real time’ when McDermott exits rehab. McDermott entered rehab in January, after numerous reports that he had been unfaithful to Spelling. McDermott did not reveal the nature of his treatment, but issued a statement apologizing to his family for any pain he had caused them.

“I take full responsibility for my actions and have voluntarily checked myself into a treatment center to address some health and personal issues. I am grateful to be getting the help I need so I can become the husband and father my family deserves.”

In an interview with Us Weekly, Emily Goodwin, McDermott’s alleged mistress, who claimed to have spent two nights with the married father of four, had this to say:

“He told me he and Tori had a sexless marriage. I believed him.”

McDermott and Spelling have four children; obviously their marriage is not completely sexless. Two of their children, daughter Hattie Margaret, born October 10, 2011, and son Finn Davey, born August 30, 2012, are less than a year apart, so it would appear that Spelling and McDermott have a healthy relationship. Spelling and McDermott are both no strangers to infidelity; both were married to others when they met. Spelling married Charlie Shanian in a posh, million dollar plus ceremony on July 3, 2003. McDermott was married to Mary Jo Eustace when he began his affair with Spelling. The two were married on May 7, 2006, less than a month after Spelling’s divorce was finalized, and chose a private island ceremony for their wedding.

Spelling and McDermott have filmed nearly their entire married life in return for a paycheck, starting with Tori & Dean: Inn Love, which followed the couple as they tried to run a bed and breakfast while Tori gave birth to their first son, Liam. The show changed to Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood when the Inn didn’t work out. Home Sweet Hollywood ran for three more seasons, and saw the couple have their daughter, Stella and buy their first home. Spelling was also publishing books during this time, and has published six in total.

In her sixth book, “Spelling It Like It Is”, Tori infuriated may fans, claiming that she and McDermott were financially strapped to the point that they could not afford for Dean to have a vasectomy. She also extolled her thrifty ways of using hand me down clothes for her children. Spelling also shared her own sacrifices for her family, admitting that she had not bought a new purse in three years….oh, what a mother will do for her children.

While Spelling has not commented on the new series, or on the planned reconciliation with McDermott, she was wearing her wedding ring while out to lunch with a friend in Sherman Oaks, California, where she flashed her ring while waving to photographers.

True Tori is set to premiere Tuesday, April 22 on Lifetime.
