Nikki Reed Announces Split From Husband Paul McDonald After Just Two Years

Nikki Reed announced on Saturday that she and her American Idol musician husband Paul McDonald are breaking up after just two years.

Sporting dark black sunglasses and a black tank top, without her wedding ring, the Twilight star looked somber following her workout at an LA gym over the weekend.

A representative for the actress spoke to People Magazine about the split: “After much consideration, Nikki Reed and Paul McDonald are ending their marriage. They have been living separately for the past six months due to work obligations.”

The rep continued to speak about the Nikki Reed divorce, saying: “They will continue to share their love of music, and are still working on their debut album, I’m Not Falling, releasing in 2014. They remain best friends and look forward to their continued journey together.”

By most accounts, the writing was on the wall as the couple did kind of rush things when they first met. Having met at the Red Riding Hood premiere back in March 2011, they got engaged just three months later, which is quick even by Hollywood standards.

Back in January of last year, Nikki Reed opened up to E! News about what she thought was the key to a successful marriage.

She spoke about the busy schedules she and McDonald had: “Last year Paul was on tour and I went to 30 shows, and yeah, it was a big deal, and this year I’m doing all this promo and he flies with me.”

She continued that: “Independence is also really important in our relationship. [Paul] goes off and does his music and stuff like all day every day. We don’t just hang out together; he separates and goes to the music studio and he works and then I work too.”

Nevertheless, it seems that the excessively busy work schedules may ultimately be to blame for the upcoming divorce between Nikki Reed and Paul McDonald. No doubt the divorce, with all of its gory details, will be widely reported in the tabloid press.
