‘Magic Mike 2’ To Shoot In The Fall

Looks like Magic Mike 2 is officially a go. The film, which took stars like Channing Tatum and Matthew McConaughey to new heights will begin filming the sequel to the popular strip club film in the fall.

The news was revealed from returning cast member Joe Manganiello, who told Collider that he would be reprising his role in the sequel. In the first Magic Mike film, Manganiello played Big Dick Richie, and pretty much stayed in the background so Tatum and McConaughey can shine. During the interview Manganiello said:

“It’s gonna happen this fall. I think they’re going to announce it soon. It’s crazy. I didn’t think that would be my first franchise. I never thought that would ever be the direction of my career. But that said, it’s just proof that I don’t know best, all the time. It was the most fun I’ve ever had, and I can’t wait to get back in and mix it up with those guys.”

Although Manganiello and Tatum are set to return for Magic Mike 2, it’s unknown whether or not Matthew McConaughey is returning for the sequel. At the time Magic Mike was released, McConaughey was putting his ducks in a row for a career transformation. Now that he’s won an Oscar for his turn in Dallas Buyers Club, it’s believed that Matthew either doesn’t need the sequel as a boost or is just too busy to take part in it.

According to a source who gossiped to a tabloid, McConaughey doesn’t have any interest in returning:

“Taking his shirt off is what got him to the forefront of Hollywood, but he is adamant that since he won an Academy Award, his acting skills should get him jobs.”

The last time we heard about Magic Mike’s production, Channing Tatum tweeted a photo of himself working through the script. Tatum, who was a producer on the first film, is writing the sequel this time around. The first film was written by Reid Carolin and helmed by Steven Soderbergh.

A lot has changed since 2012, and it’s believed that director Steven Soderbergh has retired from directing, as the director has made a few public statements about the end of his career. So far Magic Mike 2 is without a director, and although it’s been hinted at that Tatum may take on the role, Channing denied this report. As of right now the duty might go to Reid Carolin.

Either way, you can expect at least some returning cast members to hit the catwalk for Magic Mike 2.
