Dwight Howard Cheerleads For Houston Texans To Draft Jadeveon Clowney

Perennial NBA All-Star Dwight Howard returned to the court for the Houston Rockets Monday night after missing three games with a left ankle injury, and in his return he helped inspire his team to victory over the Charlotte Bobcats. Howard is also hoping to inspire his town’s NFL team to choose a player he feels can make a significant and lasting contribution to the team.

The Houston Texans have the number one overall pick of the 2014 NFL draft, and a lot rides on the selection the Texans make at this position. A first overall pick is supposed to help carry a team to wins and championships, and the Texans are in a spot where they could use all the help they can get. Dwight Howard thinks he knows just the man for the job, and according to NFL.com, the man Howard would like to see picked at the number one spot in the NFL draft is South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney.

Howard’s choice would bring a beast of an athlete to Houston. Clowney comes in at 6’6? and 274 lbs, and is considered by many to be one of the best defensive ends to come out of college football in quite some time. There have been questions raised about his work ethic following a bit of a down turn in his on-field production during his final season with the Gamecocks, but with multiple on field awards, including SEC defensive player of the year in 2012 and multiple All-SEC team selections, Dwight’s choice for the Texans definitely has a lot of upside potential in the NFL.

Not only is Dwight Howard pulling for Jadeveon Clowney to get drafted to the Texans in the NFL draft, he’s also actively promoting him to be the number one selection for the Texans. Clowney recently attended a Houston Rockets game, and afterward Howard and Clowney got together to hype the NFL draft prospect to the Texans, and they put it up on Instagram for the entire world to see.

The Inquisitr previously covered a story about Howard being not minding the boos when he travels to other towns, and apparently he doesn’t mind doing the cheering for a player he feels should make his home in Houston.

“If he (is drafted by the Texans), Houston is going to be on fire,” Howard says in the video, and there’s no doubt that seeing Clowney line up opposite J.J. Watt on the Texans’ D-line could be a potential bad day for any opposing offensive line, but Dwight should recognize that his Houston Texans are also in desperate need of a franchise quarterback who can lead the team into the future. Whether or not that quarterback exists in this year’s draft class in debatable, but the Texans could very well have much more immediate needs than Dwight Howard’s favorite draft prospect.

Or perhaps Dwight is on to something, and Clowney is indeed just what the Texans need to catch fire.
