Kate Winslet On Leonardo DiCaprio: ‘He Is The Love Of My Life’
Although many romances in Hollywood fade, the platonic relationship between Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio has lasted for over fifteen years. It was a friendship born on the set of the mega successful film Titanic, and according to Winslet, although she’s a married woman, she will always have eyes for Leonardo DiCaprio.
DiCaprio, who walked Kate Winslet down the aisle during her nuptials to her second husband Ned Rocknroll, takes a lot of residence up in Winslet’s heart. During a recent interview to promote her new film Divergent, Winslet was asked if she preferred Theo James’ Four from Divergent over Leonardo DiCaprio’s Jack from Titanic. The answer was a no brainer for the actress, who said without missing a beat:
“Leo is my love of my life. How could you possibly ask me that question? If I said Theo over Leo, he would never stay the night at his house ever again. Ever. No, he can’t have that.”
Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet proved that they still have chemistry after being off screen screen for so long. In 2008 the two reunited to play out a brutal love story about a young couple living in Connecticut in the 1950s who are struggling to control their personal problems as they raise their children. It proved to be an intense shoot for all parties involved, especially director Sam Mendes who was Winslet’s husband at the time.
In an interview with SMH Leonardo DiCaprio alluded to the fact that it might have been too much for Mendes.
“It was certainly a difficult time,” DiCaprio is quoted as saying.
“She was really worried that Sam wasn’t bothered by the fact that his wife was making out with another guy right in front of her. I told her it was only acting, but she kept on saying, ‘This is really weird’.”
Dicaprio continued to describe the wedge the shooting might have caused between Kate Winslet and ex husband Sam Mendes.
“When Sam started telling her exactly how to have sex with me she didn’t like it at all. She was freaking out because she was supposed to be having sex with her best friend – me – while her husband directed. “But I didn’t find it weird at all. It didn’t bother me, because that’s part of acting.”
In addition to the shooting of Revolutionary Road, DiCaprio spoke on behalf of his friend Winslet, and said that the actress’ divorce was also due to “hectic work schedules.” Fortunately now Kate Winslet is happy with husband Ned Rocknroll and their son Bear. However we’ll always wonder what could have been between Kate and Leo.
