Oprah Winfrey: You Get Tea! You Get Tea! Everyone Gets Tea!
Oprah Winfrey, former queen of talk and one of the world’s richest woman, is now in the coffee business! Oprah announced at a company shareholder’s meeting in Seattle that her line of Teavana teas will be the next offering of caffeine titan Starbucks.
Her tea line is called Teavana Oprah Chai, and Winfrey says she created the brew with the help of renowned tea expert Naoko Tsunoda. According to Huffington Post, the tea will be served on Starbucks branches across US and Canada starting April 29.
Not only do you get to refresh yourself with this tea handcrafted by Oprah herself, you also get to send kids to school with every purchase. Part of the proceeds of the Teavana Oprah Chai will be sent to the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy Foundation, a charity that aims to provide young people with educational opportunities.
The tea will feature an edgy infusion of ginger, cardamon, cinnamon and cloves blended with black tea leaves and rooibos. Oprah herself handpicked the spices that will go into the brew with the help of Tsunoda. When asked about the intense selection of spices, the TV personality said she “likes things really spicy”.
Ms. Winfrey aimed to increase the robustness of the Oprah Chai, saying that earlier versions were a bit “too soft”.
The CEO of Starbucks himself, Howard Schultz, were all praises for the new Starbucks offering.
During the tea launch at Seattle, Oprah shared to the press her lifelong passion for tea.
She also shared her tea routine with fans, according to the LA Times. She revealed:
“My daily tea ritual is a vital part of my morning. Savory and spicy chai, with its deep flavor, has long been a favorite of mine.”

The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy Foundation was founded by the TV mogul a few years ago and was inspired by her talk with South African leader Nelson Mandela.
