Woman Allegedly Stabs ‘NASCAR Worshipping’ Husband, Drives Car Into Church

Did the devil make her do it?

A Tennessee woman allegedly stabbed her husband in the chest for “worshipping” a NASCAR race. Before the encounter with her husband, she drove her car through the front of a church.

The woman, identified in multiple media accounts as Stephanie Hamman, reportedly told police that she was possessed by the devil.

She has been charged with attempted first degree murder and felony vandalism. The suspect is being held without bond.

On Sunday night, her husband Steven discovered that his wife had driven her car through the front doors of a church across the street from their apartment in Church Hill, Tennessee. “Hamman stated he found his wife lying in front of the altar, and as he checked on her, she stated, ‘The devil is in me’, and stabbed him on the right side of his chest with a large kitchen knife.” Steven pulled the knife from his chest, made it back to the apartment, and called 911. He is in fair condition.

On the 911 call, Hamman told the dispatcher that “I don’t know what’s gotten into my wife. She went and wrecked her car into the church down here, I don’t know what’s wrong with her.”

Stephanie, 23, reportedly told police when they located her in the emergency room shortly thereafter “that she felt her husband Steven was worshiping the NASCAR race at Bristol, which made her mad, and she began having ‘thoughts that the devil put in her head.’ ”

She also told police that she loves to smoke weed and that “Sometimes when I do, I start seeing things that others don’t.” She apparently added that God wanted her in the church, so that’s why she crashed through the front entrance. Hamman also reportedly explained that the devil told her to bring a kitchen knife.
