Ronda Rousey, UFC Star, Expresses Admiration For CM Punk And Interest In Pro Wrestling

Ronda Rousey is the reigning Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Women’s Bantamweight Champion and considered by many as the best pound-for-pound female fighter in the world. Coupled with her brash trash-talking and fearsome presence in the arena, it is quite easy to forget that she is, at the end of the day, a woman. However, this became apparent when Rousey met WWE star CM Punk.

Rousey gushed like a giddy schoolgirl upon meeting the former wrestling champion for the first time last month. During the UFC 171 weigh-ins in Gilley’s Club in Dallas, Rousey revealed to the audience that the first thing she thought she said was “I love you” when she saw CM Punk after UFC 170. Rousey added that the move was “terrible and not smooth at all”.

After that memorable first meeting, Rousey and her friends had the opportunity to spend time with CM Punk after Rousey’s match against Sara McMann for the UFC women’s bantamweight title on February 22 in Las Vegas.

Rousey Defeats McMann

Rousey a big fan of WWE – she and her roommates watch the show “WWE Raw” every Monday night at their home in Venice Beach. Jessamyn Duke and Shayna Baszler are also UFC fighters and Marina Shafir is turning pro very soon. The ladies call themselves “The Four Horsewomen” as an ode to the WCW pro wrestling faction. It is also interesting to note that Rousey’s nickname “Rowdy” comes from the ring name of retired Canadian pro wrestler, Roddy Piper.

Spending time with CM Punk (whose real name is Phillip Brooks) was exciting for Rousey, who mentioned in past interviews that she found him “sexy”.

Apart from her admiration of CM Punk, Rousey also expressed interest in competing in the WWE, entertainment news site TMZ.com reported. Rumors of the pro wrestling possibility began to surface when Rousey posted a video on the online photo-sharing site Instagram. It showed Rousey and Baszler pulling off a wrestling match at the gym where they train. While it appeared more like innocent fun than hardcore training, some insiders claim that Rousey is actually willing to take a break from her stellar UFC career to potentially participate in WWE’s WrestleMania XXXI in Santa Clara, California.

If Rousey eventually decides to appear in WrestleMania XXXI and compete in a match at the event, she will have been the first active Mixed Martial Arts fighter to participate in a WrestleMania match.

Aside from her UFC and WWE endeavors, Rousey will also star in the film adaptation of “Entourage”, which will begin filming this fall. She is hoping to defend her title in late summer, just before the film “The Expendables 3” – in which she also stars – opens in theaters.
