Chris Brown: Judge Orders Singer To Stay In Jail Until April Hearing

Things are not looking good for singer Chris Brown. A Los Angeles County judge has ordered that the 24-year-old singer remain in jail, without the possibility of bail until his next hearing, which is scheduled on April 23.

Brown was arrested last Friday, as he was kicked out of his rehabilitation program in Malibu for failing to take his drug test and for harassing a woman. He also made a threat during one of the group’s morning sessions by saying, “I am good at using guns and knives.”

Brown, who has been in a lot of trouble recently, was receiving treatment for his bipolar disorder, anger management issues, and substance abuse.

In court, Brown was in an orange jumpsuit accompanied by his mother, who sat beside him. The singer’s attorney, Mark Geragos, said in an argument that his client should enter another rehabilitation facility instead of spending time in jail until the next hearing. However, Assistant District Attorney Mary Murray said that the singer has already been kicked out of two other rehabilitation programs in less than 6 months, and that taking him to another facility should not be an option.

Geragos also mentioned that his client took the required drug test and passed, even if he had refused to do so at first.

The troubled singer has been closely supervised by the court since assaulting his ex-girlfriend Rihanna back in 2009. He pleaded guilty to the charges and had to serve 1,400 hours of community service. He was also sentenced to a five-year probation. However, his probation was revoked twice in the last year, as he continuous to be in all sorts of trouble. Since the 2009 incident with Rihanna, the singer has punched a man in Washington, and has thrown a rock through his mother’s car window.

At Brown’s hearing just last month, his probation officer testified that Brown has made great improvement in dealing with his stress and anger. Despite that, the judge still decided that the singer should stay in jail until April 17, which is the date for his trial on the assault charge in Washington. Brown’s attorney says that the singer will not be able to attend his hearing in Washington if he is locked up in Los Angeles.

Brown has been serving his community service and has 750 hours remaining. If he continues, he will be finishing his labor duties by October of this year. However, he cannot do community service while he is locked up in jail.

Geragos is planning to file an appeal for Brown’s release before the next court date.
