Nicole Scherzinger Boyfriend Trashes Reports They’re Engaged

Nicole Scherzinger, the former lead singer of the Pussycat Dolls, is not engaged to her on-again, off-again boyfriend of five years, British Formula 1 race car driver Lewis Hamilton, after all. At least as far as Hamilton is concerned. After reports circulated for most of the day Monday that the longtime couple were finally ready to tie the proverbial knot, Hamilton trashed the rumors.

First the 2008 Formula 1 World Champion was asked by a British tabloid reporter if in fact he was getting married to Scherzinger, to which he simply replied, “no, I’m not.”

Then on Monday, Hamilton took to his Twitter account, normally devoted to his thoughts and photos from recent races, to put the kibosh on the engagement reports.

Well, technically, what Hamilton meant was that he had not propose to Nicole Scherzinger this weekend. Reportedly, he has popped the question to the X-Factor judge on not one, not two, but three previous occasions — only be rebuffed each on each attempt.

The romantic road for the sometime couple, who are separated in age by more than six years, with Nicole Scherzinger turning 36 in June this year but Hamilton just celebrating his 29th birthday in January, has been a rocky one. The couple first started seeing each other in 2007, only to split in 2011.

They reunited, then broke up again in 2013 — only to come back together in December.

“They only just got back together at Christmas, so it’s very much at a point of working things out still,” one acquaintance of the pair told US Weekly, explaining why Hamilton has not, in fact given proposal to Nicole Scherzinger a fourth go-round.

The rumors were likely fueled when Hamilton posted an Instagram photo of himself with Nicole Scherzinger at the Sistine Chapel in Vatican City. The snap was taken last Tuesday, according to Hamilton’s Instagram page.

In the message accompanying the photo, Hamilton refers to Nicole Scherzinger as “my wifey.” Presumably, that was just a joke — but perhaps one that represents a bit of wishful thinking on the F1 driver’s part.

“They want to spend time getting to know each other again without having to worry about wedding bells,” said one source of the recently rekindled Lewis Hamilton — Nicole Scherzinger romance.
