Assassin’s Creed 5: Could A Strong Female Lead Character In AC 5 Fight Video Games Sexism?

Could the Assassin’s Creed 5 location be Russia and feature a lead female character? The video games industry has long fought the stigma of being sexist. Even when it comes to African American video game characters they tend to present a stereotype. So having a woman take the lead in a major game series that has been mostly dominated by males would be a big deal indeed.

In an exclusive report by The Inquisitr, actor Ryan Frye did a photo shoot as Captain Kenway from Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag. The official Assassin’s Creed movie will feature Michael Fessbender, who will likely playing Desmond, Altair, and Ezio since they all appear similar in facial features. But playing Kenway would require a new actor assuming the movies ever cover the events of Black Flag.

Now technically there has already been a female lead in the Assassin’s Creed world. AC: Liberation featured Aveline de Grandpre in a DLC that went alongside AC 3. She also made a brief comeback in a short 60 minute DLC packaged with AC 4. But there still has not been a lead female character for any of the main numbered Assassin’s Creed games.

So what evidence do I have that this might change for Assassin’s Creed 5? So far the going theory is that the next location will be either 19th century or early 20th century Russia and will feature an assassin named Nikolai Andreievich Orelov, who was featured in a comic book series several years back. This connection is made because of an alleged Great Fall presentation leaked by a Best Buy employee.

Some think it’s fake and instead think Victorian London or the French Revolution is more likely. The second location would make Aveline a good choice since she’s of both African and French descent. Unfortunately for fans of the French revolution, Ubisoft writer Darby McDevitt seemed pretty dismissive of the idea:

[UPDATE] It turns out the Assassin’s Creed 5 location may indeed be in France based upon leaked photos.

Besides Aveline, there have been hints about who a female lead could be. Russia as the location could connect to Subject 4 aka Daniel Cross, who died in AC 3. His ancestor, Nikolai, had a daughter named Nadya that was sent off. But that connection is weak at best and may not be where Ubisoft is planning on taking us. Regardless, it’s possible a woman may headline Assassin’s Creed 5.

The story Ubisoft has been telling also has strongly hinted that a female lead character may play an important role. An “Eve” character has been mentioned since the games featuring Ezio, although the hidden video from AC 1 showed Adam and Eve racing to grab hold of the apple. Clay Kaczmarek, or Subject 16, originally told Desmond to “Find Eve… In Eden… The key… her DNA.” The Eve character was mentioned in Liberation again when Aveline played a recording which mentioned that “Eve will lead us through the war of generations.” Ubisoft also recently mentioned Eve in a recent AC Initiates update:

“We have established contact with an Assassin in Moscow, Galina Voronina. So this is awkward: she wants us to assassinate her mother, an Assassin scientist who went nuts. Apparently this lady built her own Animus and forced the other members of her cell into it!… It gets worse: this old bat might be the craziest of all. She swears that through the Animus, she’s talking to Eve.”

Ubisoft also released some artwork of this new Russian female character:

It’s been hinted that Eve was the leader of the first Revolution. Desmond could be said to be the descendant of Adam. If we use the story hints from Ubisoft as a basis for predicting the Assassin’s Creed 5 character, it’s possible a descendant of Eve will lead the world through a rebellion against Juno.

What do you think about the idea of having a strong female lead character for Assassin’s Creed 5?
