‘Captain America 3’ Will Square Off Against ‘Batman Vs. Superman’ In 2016

Captain America 3 will reportedly square off against Batman vs. Superman in 2016. Believe it or not, both films currently share the same release date.

For some bizarre reason, the folks at Marvel have decided to pencil in the third installment of the Captain America series on the same day as the Man of Steel sequel. If you think Cap can hold his own against the Man of Steel and the Caped Crusader, then you might want to take stock of which flick is generating the most buzz right now.

Granted, some stuff could go down in The Avengers: Age of Ultron that makes Captain America 3 the must-see movie of 2016. However, all bets are on Batman vs. Superman making the biggest splash at the box office on May 6, 2016. This writer’s head is still trying to wrap his brain around this surprising cinematic showdown.

According to Cinema Blend, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said he doesn’t plan to shift Captain America 3 out of that release date. Unless something happens between now and then — after all, 2016 is still down the road a bit — the world could see one of the biggest superhero showdowns in cinematic history.

Although Batman vs. Superman will definitely give the third Captain America flick a run for its money, there’s always a possibility it could surprise everyone. After all, The Winter Soldier is presently tracking to make a killing at the box office next month.

Variety reports that Captain America: The Winter Soldier could earn upwards of $85 million when it arrives on April 4. This could give the series the sort of boost necessary to make it a serious contender against Batman vs. Superman. If Marvel was hoping to get people buzzing about the third installment, then their plan certainly worked.

Directors Anthony and Joe Russo, who tackled directing duties on The Winter Soldier, said earlier this week that they will return for Captain America 3. However, it’s still unclear if Chris Evans will portray the superhero when the next flick arrives in 2016.

Variety also noted that The Winter Soldier is garnering strong reviews after a recent press screening. Depending on who you choose to believe, there’s a strong possibility that Marvel has put together their best cinematic endeavor thus far. This write is hoping that sentiment will change when Guardians of the Galaxy arrives this summer.
