Legoland Threat: Hotel Closed After Right-Wing Groups Threaten Muslim Family Day

A Legoland threat has caused the theme park to close a hotel in Windsor after right wing groups targeted a Muslim family fun day.

The threat against the London amusement park was based on a private event organized by the Muslim Research and Development Foundation. The Legoland threat caused the event to be canceled, and now Legoland has decided to close its hotel for the weekend as well.

The chair of the foundation, Haitham al-Haddad, has been painted by some newspapers as an “extremist preacher,” though he denies the claim.

A spokeswoman for the park said that right wing groups have contacted Legoland “relentlessly and aggressively” both online and by phone.

“The safety and security of our guests and our members of staff has to be our number one priority, which is why we’ve made the difficult decision to close the hotel,” she said.

The Muslim day came under opposition among these right-wing groups online, with a Paris-based blogger BNP saying Legoland should be “ashamed of themselves for bowing to these Muslims”.

“If someone would organise a white Christian-only day, people would be up in arms, calling them racist and God knows what, but no one says a thing when it’s Muslims,” the blogger wrote.

The Legoland threat escalated, with some people on Facebook posting pictures of a Muslim employee of the park along with derogatory and threatening comments.

“Although we worked hard with Legoland to find a solution to the threats and negative press, Legoland made the decision to cancel the event as they could not guarantee the safety of the attendees and their staff,” Muslim Research and Development Foundation said in a statement.

After the Legoland threat caused the hotel to close, the company noted that guests would be given full refund and an apology for the inconvenience.
