Takashi Murakami’s Google Doodle Celebrates the Summer Solstice


Today marks the beginning of summer over in the Northern Hemisphere, and Google commissioned famous Japanese artist Takashi Murakami to create a Google Doodle in celebration of the occasion. Murakami is known for his trademark “Superflat” style, mixing original art with branding and pop culture references in his works.

While those of us in the Northern Hemisphere will be enjoying the longest day of the year, our friends south of the equator will be experiencing the shortest day of the year. Murakami didn’t leave people south of the equator out, though – he also cooked up a doodle celebrating the winter solstice, which you can find over on Google’s South Africa webpage – or right below.
