Man Sues McDonald’s For $1.5 Million Over Napkin

A California man is the newest enemy to McDonald’s. He is suing the large fast-food restaurant chain for $1.5 million dollars, over one napkin!

Webster Lucas claims he was stiffed on napkins when he came in for a quarter pounder deluxe. When he found out he had only one napkin, he went back to the counter to ask for more. Apparently, he was rudely rebuffed. According to the original report on TMZ, the situation turn racial when the manager, a Mexican-American, mumbled something about “you people” to Webster, who is African American. That was enough for Webster to email the manager a complaint, insisting he could no longer work due to the “undue mental anguish” as a result of the situation with the napkin. He even writes that he was insultingly offered free burgers as a form of an apology.

Instead of burgers, Lucas wants to “supersize” in the form of a $1.5 million lawsuit.

According to the lawsuit, Lucas had this to say:

I should have went to eat at the Jack-in-the-Box because I didn’t come here to argue over napkins. I came here to eat.

Unfortunately for McDonald’s, they are no stranger when it comes to lawsuits, either they be outlandish or not. On August 18, 1994, the famous Liebeck vs. McDonald’s Restaurants lawsuit took place. This is the one where Stella Liebeck sued McDonald’s over an incident with her coffee. As the story goes, she ordered a 49 cent-cup of coffee from McDonald’s. She was in the back seat of a vehicle her son was driving. He pulled into a parking spot so Liebeck could add cream and sugar to her coffee. She placed it between her legs since the vehicle had no cup holders. Unfortunately for her, when she peeled the cover back, the entire cup spilled. She was wearing cotton sweatpants so it absorbed all the coffee, which in turn burned her thighs, buttocks, and groin. At the end of the lawsuit, Liebeck was awarded $800,000. This is also why back in the 90s, after 1994, the coffee cup covers had “Careful! Hot” in large letters and in numerous languages.

Over the years, McDonald’s would have its fair share of lawsuits which included two girls who sued them because their food made them obese. The fast food restaurant chain won that case because there wasn’t a long-term study that their food would make anyone obese. It is because of that case, Morgan Spurlock made Supersize Me, where he gained almost thirty pounds eating nothing but their food for less than thirty days. The food must be different now since a woman lost almost forty pounds on their food, as reported earlier by The Inquisitr.

The debates if this is a legit reason for a lawsuit or another case of entitlement has hit the web as well. Rightpundits has an open thread where people are now weighing in on the situation. Nevertheless, it is probably kind of disheartening to see on the discussion that a man suing McDonald’s for $1.5 million over a napkin, is not surprising.
