Lady Gaga’s Acting In ‘Machete Kills’ Wasn’t Bad Enough To Win A Razzie

Lady Gaga apparently doesn’t qualify for a worst supporting actress award.

Although the “Applause” singer was up for dubious honor at the 34th annual Razzie Awards, she ultimately lost out to Kim Kardashian. The so-called “winners” were officially announced on March 1, though it’s doubtful many of the actors and actresses are exactly thrilled with receiving their trophies.

For those who don’t keep up with the Razzies, Lady Gaga received a nomination for Worst Supporting Actress after she appeared in director Robert Rodriguez’s much-maligned sequel Machete Kills. Fortunately for Gaga, the awards committee thought Kardashian’s turn in Tyler Perry’s Temptation was even worse.

While most people didn’t seem overly impressed with Lady Gaga’s turn in the Machete sequel, Rodriguez thought the singer did a fine job portraying a version of the assassin known as La Camaleón. In fact, the filmmaker said that he wrote the part with Gaga in mind.

Rodriguez told the Philadelphia Inquirer:

“So I wrote her a part and she came down and I could tell she was going to be good. And the camera loves her like nobody’s business. You may even look at her and think, okay, she may not be the prettiest girl. But you put the camera on her and she’s the prettiest girl. It was a lot of fun. I can’t wait to work with her again. I may have already worked with her again.”

Despite the Razzie nomination and the negative reviews she received for Machete Kills, Lady Gaga isn’t turning her back on the world of cinema just yet. Not only does she have a role in Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller’s Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, the singer is also reportedly attached to Matthew Vaughn’s The Secret Service.

However, all of this acting doesn’t mean she isn’t completely devoted to her music career. Lady Gaga is getting ready to tour the globe in support of her latest album ARTPOP, an endeavor that reportedly cost the folks at Universal Music quite a bit of money in the long run.
