New ‘Godzilla’ Trailer Hits The Internet [Video]

The Godzilla official main trailer has been released to the internet.

The reboot of the science fiction/monster franchise premieres on May 14 in a movie theater near you. It stars Bryan Cranston, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olson, and Ken Watanabe among others. Directed by Gareth Edwards from a screenplay by Max Borenstein, the 2014 version of Godzilla is a co-production of Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros.

The trailer (see embed below) opens with the powerful and familiar voice of Cranston (Breaking Bad‘s Walter White) demanding that “I want to talk to somebody in charge…You are not fooling anybody when you say that what happened was a natural disaster. You’re lying. It was not an earthquake, it wasn’t a typhoon. Because what’s really happening is that you’re hiding something out there… and it is going to send us back to the Stone Age!”

Perhaps to heighten the suspense and anticipation, the monster itself is only seen relatively briefly in this new teaser. “The trailer… also hints at how the new Godzilla film… will connect to the mythology of the 1954 Japanese original. The U.S. military’s nuclear tests in the Pacific in the 1950s weren’t actually tests, we learn. ‘They were trying to kill it,’ says Ken Watanabe’s character…”

The latest installment of the Godzilla series, the second to be filmed by an American studio, is said to have a $160 million budget. “Judging by the panic in star Bryan Cranston’s voice, Godzilla is opting for a much more serious and horror-infused take than the notorious 1998 version that had critics on a rampage.”

Also heard on this new trailer is Watanabe’s ominous warning that “The arrogance of man is thinking Nature is in our control, and not the other way around.”

Based on the acting and the special effects contained in this new Godzilla trailer, are you looking forward to seeing the Godzilla reboot on the big screen? Will it be a “monster” hit?
