‘Wake Me Up’ Cover Performed By The Red Hot Chilli PIPERS

The Red Hot Chilli Pipers… yes, PIPERS, recently performed Avicii’s Wake Me Up to kick start the much anticipated announcement of BBC’s Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Glasgow.

The group is easily the most famous bag pipe group in the world. They were the winners of the Scottish Live Act of the Year in 2007, and then again in 2010.

Since their win on the UK primetime TV talent show When Will I Be Famous in 2007, The Red Hot Chilli Peppers have been taking the world by storm.

They formed their group back in 2002, and have made a unique sound for themselves, that they refer to as “bagrock”, using only their bagpipes and drums. They have traveled the world, from New York to Beijing, performing covers of today’s most popular songs.

The group previously released three very successful albums, and just recently released their fourth, Music For The Kilted Generation. Their previous albums went platinum in Scotland.

Their last tour was in 2010 when they performed an eleven date tour of Scotland, another eleven week tour in Germany, and then a seven week tour across the United States. They have also performed in Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, and the majority of Europe and India. They have developed a devoted and loyal worldwide fan base.

Biffy Clyro says that he loves how the band has given the bagpipes a new audience, and a rock ‘n’ roll edge. “The Red Hot Chilli Pipers’ twist on our national instrument is a huge amount of fun. They have taken the bagpipes to a whole new audience and given them a rock ‘n’ roll edge which definitely earns them the Biffy seal of approval!”

“Bag Rocks!” the The Duke of Argyll said. “The Red Hot Chilli Pipers are great live performers with passion and enthusiasm that has captivated the world – great ambassadors for Scotland. I’m a fan.”

BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend is scheduled to be held at the Glasgow Green on May 24-25.
