Lisa Edelstein Starring In Bravo’s First Scripted Drama

Lisa Edelstein will be starring in the Bravo network’s first original scripted series.

The actress best known for her role as Dr. Lisa Cuddy in House is the main character in the 13-episode Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce which will premiere in 2015. That’s House, not House-wives.

Most people believe that Bravo reality shows such as the Real Housewives franchise are also scripted, but that’s another matter.

Irony perhaps seems to be the theme of this new Lisa Edelstein vehicle in which she plays “a 40-something self-help book author who hides the fact that she’s separated from her husband. Based on the best-selling book series Girlfriends’ Guide by Vicki Iovine, the scripted series aims to offer a fresh take on women tackling life after divorce with the help of their friends.Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce will follow the life of Abby (Edelstein), who suddenly finds herself taking advice from her divorced friends rather than her married ones. The result is a series of unexpected life-changes that occur as Abby tries to navigate her life as a single woman in Los Angeles.”

The showrunner for the hour-long episodes is Marti Noxon. Said Bravo exec Frances Berwick, “From the minute we saw this script, we felt this was really on brand for Bravo — it’s got lots of humor, lots of fun, and it’s incredibly stylish. More than anything, this is a real passion project for Marti who is a big Bravo fan.”

Janeane Garofalo and Beau Garrett are among the supporting players in Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce.

Among other honors, Lisa Edelstein won the 2011 People’s Choice Award for Best Drama Actress in a TV series (House).
