Kissing Couple in Vancouver Riot ID’d via Facebook


It was like, the dry hump heard around the world.

The recent riots in Vancouver spawned many iconic images, but none so destined for dorm room poster status as that of a seemingly unaware couple totally second-basing it as a violent riot swarmed less than half a block away. Well- that’s what the image appears to illustrate.

The couple were quickly ID’d as an Aussie bartender and his Canadian girlfriend. But the pair and bystanders say the image wasn’t of a passion-fueled riot tryst- the latter was injured, and her boyfriend was comforting her. (Although she only suffered a bruised leg in the incident.)

“They were between the riot police and the rioters, and the riot police were actually charging forward, and Alex got knocked by a [police] shield and fell to the ground,” Brett Jones told CBC News. “[Scott] was comforting her and gave her a kiss to say, ‘It’s going to be OK,’ and the photographer just took the shot at that moment.”

The male pictured in the photo was identified as Scott Jones, and his father posted the following Facebook update when he saw the news:
