T.J. Oshie Tells What Terrifies Him More Than The Shootout With Russia

American hockey hero TJ Oshie showed some nerves of steel during the shootout between the US and Russia, but he says that becoming a father is more nerve wracking than facing the mighty Russians on their home turf.

The 27-year-old St. Louis Blues forward is still processing what happened last Saturday, when the US hockey team beat their arch rivals at the Sochi Winter Games, even though he looked cool and calm while Americans all over the world held their collective breaths.

The US men’s hockey team is attempting to win a gold medal for the first time since the famed 1980 Miracle on Ice against the Soviet Union and as this article is in production it faces another nemesis, Canada, on their road to the top of the podium.

In an exclusive interview with Us Weekly from Sochi, T.J. Oshie talks about how his life has gone from relative obscurity to a household name recognized internationally.

“It hasn’t really hit me too much. Getting on Twitter and seeing the followers and stuff, I guess it sinks in a little bit. Now I feel like I need to watch what I say on Twitter! Not bore people like I do.”

The social media site has been on fire talking about T.J. Oshie and he received congratulatory tweets from the President of the United States and his favorite football team, the Super Bowl champs Seatlle Seahawks.

Speaking of how crazy his life has gotten ever since scoring the winning shootout goal for the US Oshie says:

“It’s a little much, to be honest. I tend to fly under the radar a little bit so to have all this press around me is pretty crazy and surreal. But it’s not too hard for me to focus on the task at hand and put all that to the side.”

But the attention T.J. Oshie is getting is not limited to his talent on the ice, the ladies have also noticed his good looks, however, the new American sensation is most definitely taken by fiance Lauren Cosgrove who is due to give birth to the couple’s first child — a baby girl — in just five weeks.

When he was asked what is scarier, the shootout against Russia or the birth of his daughter T.J. Ochie said, “it’s gotta be the daughter. She’s going to give me a run for my money!”
