Scientists Figure Out How To Stop Grey Hair
Scientists have announced the discovery for a new method to end “greying hair.” According to the researchers grey hair occurs due to a missing “signaling” protein called Wnt which is found in the melanocyte stem cells of hair color.
By genetically manipulating Wnt scientists now believe they can prevent hair from turning grey.
Speaking to the Telegraph one scientist noted:
“We have known for decades that hair follicle stem cells and pigment-producing melanocyte cells collaborate to produce colored hair, but the underlying reasons were unknown.” and “We discovered Wnt signaling is essential for coordinated actions of these two stem cell lineages and critical for hair pigmentation.”
Scientists also believe that their discovery could one day help in the fight against melacoyte-related diseases such as melanoma.
