Christina Aguilera’s Engagement: The Story Behind Her Ring

Christina Aguilera had a very special Valentine’s Day. As we previously reported, the “Ain’t No Other Man” singer became engaged to her boyfriend Matthew Rutler. The three met on the set of her 2010 film Burlesque. At the time Rutler was a personal assistant on the set, and Aguilera was of course the star.

Although Burlesque tanked at the box office, and was later trashed by her co-star Cher, it seems like the film at least lead to something positive in Aguilera’s life.

Now that we know about Christina’s exciting engagement news, as well as having a look at the ring through Aguilera’s Twitter, we can now start to unveil just how the engagement went down.

Matthew Rutler decided that he would propose to Aguilera a year ago. After dating the singer for two years, he was convinced that she was the one for him, and started planning in advance. For the ring, Rutler chose nine “multi-colored gemstones” to signify all of the different stages in their relationship.

According to People magazine:

“Matt spent over a year designing the ring with the ring designer to represent their three-year journey together as a couple. He has been planning this for a while and was just waiting for the right time — the ring has been done for months. Every single placement of each stone has a reason and meaning.”

The source continued to discuss Aguilera’s new ring and what it represents:

“There are nine special multi-colour gemstones that you cannot see. They all symbolize something meaningful to the couple. Christina is very spiritual and having the stones touch her actual skin will emit positive energies surrounding her at all times. They represent things like love, protection and healing.”

It seems like Matthew Rutler went above and beyond to make the ring special for his new bride. According to a source, Aguilera’s fiance took two of the singer’s favorite rings and created a unique design that depicted, “both their lives coming together as one (sic).”

A source told People magazine that the two are “very much in love and are really excited to take this next step!”

This is Matthew Rutler’s first marriage, and Christina Aguilera’s second. Aguilera was previously married to Jordan Bratman, and went through a painful divorce which was finalized in 2011. Ironically, the day her divorce was finalized was on Valentine’s Day of 2011. On that day she spent her time with Rutler.

Aguilera also has a six-year-old son named Max from her first marriage with Bratman.
