Large Power Outage Strikes New Jersey

A large power outage has struck parts of New Jersey this afternoon, affecting nearly 1 million people.

The center of the outage was the Central New Jersey based Monmouth County, with power outages also reported in Ocean, Burlington, Middlesex and Morris counties.

Monmouth County is located about 46 miles (74kms) southwest of New York City, with many residents commuting to NY daily.

According to mixed reports, the New Jersey power outage may have been caused by a fire in a transformer, although other reports say that Jersey Central Power & Light is still trying to determine the cause of the problem

Traffic lights on major roadways are down and authorities are encouraging residents to use local roads, or to drive with caution where lights aren’t working.

More if we get it.
