Bill Nye Found Dead: Hoax Claims ‘Science Guy’ Murdered After Evolution Debate

Bill Nye has not been found dead, despite what may be spreading around on Twitter.

This week a death hoax circulated saying that the Science Guy, Bill Nye, was found murdered by a suspect who apparently claimed “God made me do it.”

The death hoax spread on Twitter and even made its way to YouTube, but was quickly debunked as one of the many celebrity death rumors to crop up in the past few years. In fact Bill Nye himself “died” before on Twitter.

The hoax seemed to play on the attention Bill Nye garnered after debating creationist Ken Ham earlier this month. The debate, which was live streamed on the internet, showed Nye defending evolution and encouraging children to get interested in science.

Nye also came down hard on Ken Ham, who created the Creation Museum in Kentucky.

“If we accept Mr. Ham’s point of view… that the Bible serves as a science text and he and his followers will interpret that for you, I want you to consider what that means,” Nye said. “It means that Mr. Ham’s word is to be more respected than what you can observe in nature, what you can find in your backyard in Kentucky.”

When an audience member asked where atoms came from, Bill Nye said that scientists were learning more about that every day. Ham had a different answer.

“Bill, I want to tell you, there is a book that tells where atoms come from, and its starts out, ‘In the beginning…,’ ” Ham said, referring to the Bible’s creation story.

The Bill Nye death rumor cropped up just a little more than a week after the heated exchange.

The rumor that Bill Nye was found dead came apart with just a little investigation. Users tweeted a link that led to a YouTube link explaining a lot.
