Kanye West Is Still The Same Guy From Chicago 10 Years After ‘The College Dropout’

Kanye West said he’s still the same guy from the streets of Chicago.

The rapper recently celebrated the 10-year anniversary of his debut album The College Dropout, a record that many people believe changed the face of rap music. Although a lot has changed since those days, West insists that he’s still the same kid on the inside.

To mark the occasion, Kanye issued a series of posts on Twitter Monday night. According to the rapper, he’s still a guy who’s “dreaming out loud” and “banging on the door.”

“Ten years ago today we finally released what had been my life’s work up to that point: ‘The College Dropout.’ I say ‘finally’ because it was a long road, a constant struggle, and a true labor of love to not only convince my peers and the public that I could be an artist, but to actually get that art out for the world to hear,” Kanye West explained.

The rapper continued:

“I am extremely grateful to each and every person along that road who helped, lent an ear, lent their voice, gave of their heart to that project, and to all the projects that followed, and are to come. I am honored and humbled by my fans, for the unwavering support and love over the past ten years. I wake up every day trying to give something back to you that you can rock to and be proud of.”

The Inquisitr previously reported that Kanye West was a gangsta rapper before refocusing his career. According to producer No I.D., West decided to change things up after a particularly nasty car crash forced him to reevaluate his life.

“His goal was to be [as] tough as possible. Some of it was over compensation for the fact that he wasn’t a street guy at all and he felt like people wouldn’t respect him it if it was not tough. The gangsta rap came when he was in the group, The Go-Getters. The group were street, so he tried to keep up with them,” the producer told Billboard.

He added, “I remember when I first talked to him after the accident, and his mouth was all messed up. He was like, ‘I figured it out. I’m going to rap about this accident. I’m going to use a song and change the direction. I’m going conscious with my music.'”

West’s fiancé Kim Kardashian recently helped the rapper celebrate the release of his debut album with a large and decidedly awesome cake. Judging from the image below, West was clearly touched by the gesture.
