Game Of Thrones ‘Catelyn Stark’ Joins New Cast Of ’24’ On Fox

Game of Thrones lost a heroine last season, but the new, revived season of Fox TV’s 24 gained a villain.

For those of you who haven’t watched Season 3 of Game of Thrones yet, please stop reading now, because there’s no way to report this news without spoiling the biggest moment of that season.

Of course, we’re talking about The infamous “Red Wedding,” when Catelyn Stark, played by the 50-year-old Northern Irish actress Michelle Fairly, had her throat shockingly slit, robbing the series of one of its most admired, and strongest female characters.

But if Michelle Fairly thought she had it tough handling the devious Lannisters of Westeros on Game of Thrones, this time around, she’ll never know what hit her — because she has to deal with Jack Bauer.

The erstwhile Game of Thrones star was only today announced as the replacement for veteran Australian actress Judy Davis, who bowed out of the rebooted Fox series last week. 24 ran for eight seasons, ending in May of 2010. But after the four-year hiatus, Fox is bringing back the ruthless but psychologically tortured secret agent Jack Bauer to wallow in moral ambiguity one more time.

The new series of 24 is subtitled Live Another Day. In the series, which premieres May 5, the former Game of Thrones regular will play “Margot,” described as a British citizen who is also the widow of an infamous terrorist. Presumably, Margot takes up her late husband’s work — bringing her into direct conflict with the lethal Jack Bauer, played as always by Kiefer Sutherland.

Davis, who has twice been nominated for Oscars — for the 1984 A Passage To India and then in 1992 for the Woody Allen film Husbands And Wives — had to back out of 24: Live Another Day due to what were described as personal matters.

Interestingly, Fairly got her role in Game of Thrones by being, herself, a last-minute replacement for another actress. She came on to play Catelyn Stark when Jennifer Ehle, known for her 1995 role in the Pride and Prejudice miniseries, was replaced by Game of Thrones producers.
