Cory Monteith’s Band Bonnie Dune Releases Album

It’s been almost seven months since Glee’s Cory Monteith was found dead in a Vancouver hotel room from a deadly combination of heroin and alcohol toxicity. While his death has changed the conversation of the stereotyped image that heroin addicts sometimes have in the media, the one thing that hasn’t changed too much is the music.

During Cory Monteith’s life, in addition to his work on Glee, Monteith was a drummer for the indie rock band Bonnie Dune. Months following his passing the band has decided to release their debut album Miramar that acts as a posthumous tribute to the late Glee actor. The original plan was to finish a full album and release their debut but things were put on an indefinite hiatus after Monteith’s passing.

Members of Bonnie Dune admitted that the band had to take a hiatus before his passing due to Monteith’s struggles with addiction. Justin Wilczynski opened up to E! news:

“Some things happened where Cory needed to take a break and we realized that he was struggling and that he was having a hard time, so we took a bit of a hiatus from the writing and recording process.”

The singer who was friends with Monteith continued to speak about their plans prior to his death:

“We were always thinking we were going to go back and do more songs to release a full length record–I wanted to do a 10-song record. When Cory passed we decided we would just release all the songs we recorded with him and release all the ones that we have.”

Justin and Cory banded together as musicians after their short-lived MTV series Kaya ended. According to Monteith’s friend he had shared some songs of the debut album with his girlfriend Lea Michele.

The singer says that Bonnie Dune’s short album Miramar, which is currently available on iTunes acts as a “celebration of his life and what he enjoyed doing.”

Bonnie Dune debuted their song “Maybe Tonight” on E! a few days before.

As for Cory Monteith’s girlfriend Lea Michele, her albumLouder was also delayed due to the actor’s death. Recently the Glee actress let fans listen to the full version of what’s expected to be her second single, called “You’re Mine” which is dedicated to Monteith. According to the actress, Cory heard all of the tracks off of her album but two. “You’re Mine” apparently had Monteith’s seal of approval and was his favorite off of her album.
