Watch Team USA Hockey Vs. Slovakia Live Online: 2014 Sochi Olympics Hockey Tournament

Fans can watch the Team USA vs. Slovakia hockey game live online as the Americans kick off the 2014 Sochi Olympics and a possible trip to the gold medal.

The game will be the first of the Olympics for the United States, who come into the international tournament harboring thoughts of a gold medal to avenge their second-place finish in 2010. After falling to the Canadian team in overtime at the Vancouver games, Team USA has come back with a team many expect to top Canada this year.

The game against Slovakia will be played at 7:30 am ET, with the game being broadcast on NBC Sports Network, and will also be available for online streaming.

Those who choose to watch Team USA vs. Slovakia live online will see a team with a bit different look than the last time around. On Wednesday the team announced that goalie Ryan Miller, who took the team on his back in 2010 and earned tournament MVP honors, will be on the bench as Los Angeles Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick gets the start in the first game.

“I’m fortunate for the opportunity,” Quick said. “And I’ll just try to make the most of it.”

Quick was the No. 3 goalie in Vancouver three years ago, behind Miller and Tim Thomas.

Ryan Miller said he has the utmost confidence in Quick.

“He’s a great goalie, and he’s going to do great for us,” Miller said of Quick. “We’ll see where it goes from here, and I’ll be ready to play.”

Head coach Dan Bylsma played down what could have been a goaltender controversy, instead saying Team USA is blessed with fantastic goaltenders at all three spots.

“We’re dealing with a position of strength when it comes to the goaltender decision,” Bylsma said.
