Danny Davis: Snowboarder Says The Sochi Halfpipe Is Lame Garbage

Danny Davis says the snowboarding halfpipe at the 2014 Sochi Olympics isn’t up to snuff for professional standards.

In a related report by The Inquisitr, the Sochi Olympics banned stickers honoring deceased skier Sarah Burke, claiming they were a “political statement” that had no place at the event.

Four years ago, Danny Davis was given the chance to be on the US Olympic team after beating Shaun White in a halfpipe competition. So the snowboarder definitely knows what he’s talking about. Unfortunately, his Olympic dreams were shattered at the time when he had a run-in with an ATV that broke his back:

“I beat Shaun, I made the Olympic team then I hurt myself being an idiot. I learned from that and then I went through this whole process of rehab and learning about my body and how you really come back from an injury.”

But after winning a gold medal in the Winter X Games, Davis is back and pumped up for the Sochi winter games. He’s been focusing on the “core industry of snowboarding” and has focused on more technical tricks such as switches and slower-spinning moves.

Unfortunately, Davis been sourly disappointed by the conditions he and other snowboarders are forced to compete under:

“It’s the Olympics. It should be flawless. What a lame showcase of snowboarding, and what a lame way to treat the athletes.”

Sochi ice cutters have been scrambling to fix these errors despite supposedly being “unsalvageable.” Davis claims the IOC went with a cheaper bid from Development Snowparks rather than Snow Park Technologies, who is acknowledged as the best at building snow halfpipes:

“I’m pretty sure what they’re focused on is keeping as much money in their hands as possible. That’s the shame of it all. All these kids, myself included, worked very hard to get here. And then the pipe is just no fun and boring and [expletive]. Halfpipe is super fun. But riding a crappy pipe and having to perform in it is the worst.”
