Austin Mahone Denies Selena Gomez Relationship

Despite his reputation as the new Justin Bieber, Austin Mahone has denied rumors that he’s dating the singer’s ex.

The gossip began in June 2013 when E! Online reported that Mahone, 17, had been spotted enjoying a trip to Disneyland with Selena Gomez and a group of friends. The pair reportedly looked quite comfortable together, sporting mouse ears and enjoying a variety of rides.

“[Mahone and Gomez] had just gotten off of Space Mountain and were heading towards the Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage,” reported an anonymous bystander. “The group was having fun, laughing and dancing a bit.”

Another source would later echo these sentiments, telling the press, “They’re really good friends and have a lot of fun together.”

Fans of Mahone were shocked, not only for the suddenly-shaky status of his bachelorhood but also for the fact that Mahone has always been compared to Justin Bieber, the other young pop singer who made it big through YouTube. It seemed almost too much to believe that Mahone would also start dating Bieber’s ex.

According to Mahone, however, rumors of a relationship between him and Gomez were greatly exaggerated. In fact, he said he “woke up” to the headlines with no idea where they came from or why people were reporting it.

Asked if he was pursuing Gomez, Mahone replied, “No, definitely not.” He would later clarify that she was “awesome” and a “very talented, sweet girl,” but he never wavered on his position that there was absolutely nothing between them.

As for the media attention surrounding the possible pair, Mahone said, “It’s pretty crazy. Like I just woke up and they’re like, ‘Oh yeah by the way they say you’re dating Selena Gomez.’ Like what?! That’s the most random thing ever.”

Random or not, it should come as no surprise that two of music’s hottest acts have been romantically linked. Mahone recently snagged a nomination for “Favorite Breakout Artist” at the People’s Choice Awards, and he’s also set to make his network television debut on an upcoming episode of “The Millers.”

As for Gomez, she enjoyed a busy 2013 with her Stars Dance Tour before recently checking into rehab. Radar Online got in touch with her reps, who strenuously denied any rumors of substance abuse but admitted that the “Come and Get It” star needed a break from stardom for mental health reasons.

Perhaps a little romance could clear up her blues. Mahone, now’s your chance to snag a sweet, talented girlfriend!
