So, I thought the point of the show The Biggest Loser was to lose the most weight. Sounds pretty simple right? Well, apparently the winner of this season lost too much weight (if that’s even possible), and is now receiving criticism for going too far.
Rachel Frederickson made her final reveal during Tuesday night’s season five finale, and shocked the nation. When she started the show, Rachel weighed in at 260 pounds, which was significantly overweight for a woman of her height of 5’4.
Through sweat and tears, Rachel was able to work off the weight, and at the final weigh-in she weighed only 105 pounds. Wow… let’s say it again… wow! That is a loss of 155 pounds and 59.62 percent of her body weight.
While Frederickson is ecstatic about her new figure, some say that she has reached an unhealthy body weight, and even her coaches Jillian Michaels and Bob Harper looked shocked at the new woman she had become.
Rachel addressed the concerns saying that she loves her new body and feels like a more confident woman. “You know, I think I have been on this seven-and-a-half month journey on The Biggest Loser and I went to The Biggest Loser to find that confident girl again,” Rachel explained.
“I was very enthusiastic about the finale and I’m really excited about my life here going into maintenance mode. I’m going to try new exercises and continue on this path and see where it takes me — finding that balance!” she continued.
“I feel like my journey on The Biggest Loser was my path and I followed the advice and has the support of the medical team at The Biggest Loser the entire journey,” she continued. “So it’s just been natural and I’ve enjoyed every part of it.”
Michaels and Harper released a joint statement, via Twitter, regarding Frederickson’s extreme weight loss, when fingers started pointing at them. “Jillian and I want to take a moment to congratulate all of the BL contestants on their hard work. We’re not comfortable commenting on Rachel’s journey because we weren’t her trainers and weren’t given an opportunity to work with her at any point. Any questions about the contestants on the Biggest Loser should be directed to the show’s producers,” the statement read.
The person who had more one-on-one time with Frederickson that anyone during her journey on The Biggest Loser was Dolvett Quince, her personal trainer. He also released a statement on Frederickson’s behalf on his personal Facebook page.
