San Francisco Crash Kills One, Injures Three

A San Francisco crash has left one pedestrian killed and three others injured. According to KTVU, the accident happened shortly before 11 am Tuesday.

The pedestrian reportedly was struck and killed as he attempted to cross a busy thoroughfare in San Francisco’s Sunset District, an area that is known to be dangerous to pedestrians. Police Officer Albie Esparza told reporters that the man had been walking east across Sunset Boulevard near Yorba Street when he was hit by a southbound Toyota Corolla. The man was said to have gone through the windshield and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The San Francisco Examiner stated that three women had been inside of the car at the time of the collision. All three had been taken to a local hospital and their injuries were treated. All three women’s injuries were considered not life-threatening.

Those that live in the area say that the area where the collision took place is known as a dangerous area. While there is a cross walk with yellow lights that are supposed to flash when a pedestrian is present, residents say that the lack of traffic lights still make it dangerous.

Dick Morton and his daughter Ailin live near the intersection and Dick told reporters that the area is dangerous because “people can pick up quite a bit of speed.” He continued on to say, “you better be wide awake and fleet of foot.”

“This is a terrible place to cross,” said Elyse Aylward, who lives two blocks away. “I’m surprised that when they put in the pedestrian lights they didn’t just put in a signal. People fly along here. The speed limit is 35, but people are usually doing closer to 50. There have been many, many accidents here.”

In a recent report by The Inquisitr, a Nashville plan crash claimed the lives of all four family members on board. According to the report, authorities said that the small plane took off from Great Bend Municipal Airport just before 3 pm on Monday before crashing about 10 miles south of it’s destination of John C. Tune Airport around 5 pm. The plane’s flight plans listed a total of four individuals on board, and authorities say all four were killed. An investigation is ongoing at this point.

In the case of the San Francisco car accident, police say they are still trying to determined whether or not the pedestrian was struck by the car while he was in the cross walk. Any witnesses are being asked to come forward and contact San Francisco Police.
