United States Toppled By Great Britain In Davis Cup
The United States has been toppled by Great Britain in their bid to advance to the Davis Cup’s quarter finals, giving TeamGB a 3-1 lead in the tournament.
Led by British superstar Andy Murray, the English Davis Cup team advanced to the quarter finals for the first time in 25 years, while playing at Petco Park in San Diego on Sunday.
In a record-breaking performance, Murray won his 18th straight Davis Cup singles match and helped to defeat the United States for the first time since 1935.
Murray beat American Sam Querrey 7-6 (5), 6-7 (3), 6-1, 6-3 in a classic, hard fought match, to clinch Britain’s opening-round Davis Cup victory against the United States.

Andy Murray’s victory against the United States allows the Brits to advance to the Davis Cup World Group quarterfinals for the first time since 1986. They face Italy, which defeated Argentina.
“It looks great, it’s a cool, cool place,” Murray said of the make shift clay court that was created in left field of Petco Park — home of the San Diego Padres — for the weekend matches. “I think it’s going to basically be a great spectacle for the people who are coming to watch it.”

Murray split tie breakers with United States Davis Cup team member Querrey and breezed through the third and fourth sets Sunday.
In a court-side interview following the British Davis Cup victory over the United States, Andy Murray said:
“It’s obviously a goal. This is the first time I’ve been involved when we’ve had a chance of winning the competition. It’s obviously going to be extremely tough but we have a great team spirit, we’ve won a lot over the last few years, hopefully we can keep it going.”
After sending the United States packing in a solid performance, Andy Murray and the Brits have a good chance of taking it all in the Davis Cup.
