Richard Sherman Injury: Seattle Cornerback Leaves Super Bowl Early, Return Doubtful

Richard Sherman suffered an injury in the fourth quarter of the Super Bowl, being helped off the field after breaking up a second down pass.

The cornerback appeared to fall hard to the turf after the pass, and during a commercial break was taken off the field. Video showed Sherman being helped onto a medical cart to be taken back to the locker room.

There were few updates about the extent of the injury, but at that point in the game the Seahawks could afford to keep Sherman sidelined.

Richard Sherman helped the Seahawks jump out to a 29-0 lead, breaking up one of the few passes that Peyton Manning threw his way.

The Richard Sherman injury was actually the second time the Seahawks cornerback went down. He also went down early in the third quarter when a scary hit appeared to bend his knee the wrong way.

Sherman seemed to be in pain after the third quarter injury, and missed a few plays while the team’s medical staff attended to him on the sidelines. He later returned to the game, however.

In the days before the Super Bowl, Richard Sherman made headlines for his boasts. He openly criticized Peyton Manning, saying the quarterback throws “ducks” and made it clear he believed he was the best player in the game.

Sherman actually kicked off the pre-Super Bowl drama with a boisterous interview with Erin Andrews following the NFC Championship Game. Sherman later said the interview actually helped his team get ready for the craziness of the Super Bowl week.

“I definitely think it helped,” Sherman said. “Everybody getting the chance to see the craziness, the tons of media in our press conferences. Things like that definitely can help us get ready and get focused now that we’re here this week.”

Richard Sherman was listed as doubtful to return from his Super Bowl injury.
