Kanye West Needs To Earn His Way Into The Fashion Industry, Says 50 Cent

If Kanye West thinks he can simply waltz into the high-end fashion industry and find success, then he’s probably in for a very rude awakening.

It’s no secret that the rapper wants to take over everything he comes into contact with these days. In addition to peddling expensive shoes to the masses, West wants to sell pricey clothing to anyone with enough cash to burn. However, the fashion business could prove a bit more difficult for Kanye to conquer.

During a conversation with XXL, 50 Cent discussed his fellow rapper’s quest for world domination. Although he may have tackled the shoe business with relative ease, Kanye West should definitely prepare himself for a very difficult battle in the high-end fashion industry.

“In Kanye’s case, wanting to be a part of high-end fashion that’s a process. It’s not something that just happens. It’s like — they’re not gonna allow you to tomorrow wake up, say ‘This idea, that idea. This idea and I’m in. and I’m hot,'” 50 Cent explained.

Earlier this month, Kanye West — who reportedly began attending art school at the tender age of five — introduced his latest collection with French brand A.P.C. According to the rapper, he’s dreamed of working in the fashion industry for a very long time.

West explained:

“Everyone that, you know, came tonight knows that I’ve had a passion for a long time. I’ve dealt with this. Like because of how known [the brand] is, it’s so crazy how difficult it is. You know, it’s just everyone turns themselves into the cliché. Every factory I go to, every time I sit down and talk about it, it’s like whether I’m talking about clothes from the hip-hop side of things or talking about clothes with someone that is in the fashion industry to not have a prejudice against the U-shaped curve of success in your field.”

In addition to discussing Kanye West’s quest to infiltrate the high-end fashion industry, 50 Cent also dished on how clothing has evolved in the world of hip-hop. The Escape Plan star said he doubts many understand how much pop culture has influenced these changes.

“It’s a shift in the way the actual audience is hanging. Now they’re into high-end clothing now. They’re wearing European-cut clothing. And as clothes got tighter and tighter and tighter they start buying designer clothing that’s — the person probably wouldn’t want to see them in their clothes,” he said.

Do you agree that Kanye West will need to work extra hard to find success in the realm of high-end fashion? What do you think about the rapper’s clothes?
