‘Captain America 3’ Already In Conceptual Stage, Directing Duo To Return

Audiences assemble, Captain America 3 is on it’s way!

According to an anonymously-sourced exclusive from Variety, the third Captain America movie is already in the works, months before Captain America: The Winter Soldier is even released.

Before you start packing your Captain America underoos to camp out at the premiere (for years?), keep in mind the article relies on unnamed sources, to whom no direct quote is even attributed. This is not to cast doubt onto the veracity of said report, simply to encourage tempering your enthusiasm and the suspension of disbelief for which comic fans are known with a healthy dose of skepticism. That said…

Nerdgasm!

Naturally, reps for Marvel and the Russos had no comment. Variety’s source says Joe and Anthony Russo, sibling directors bringing you Captain America: The Winter Soldier come April 4, will return to helm the third movie in the budding Marvel franchise despite the fact that it’s yet to get the crucial green light. Writers have yet to be tasked with a script and screenplay, but that’s no surprise considering (we assume) they’ve not decided on what source material to use from the Captain America canon.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is based on the story arc of the same name from Eisner Award-winning writer Ed Brubaker (think Oscar for comics). We’ll bite our tongue on potential sequel suggestions in order to avoid pissing you off with spoilers for April. Regarding the movie based on some of his contributions to Captain America lore, Brubaker calls Winter Soldier “the best movie that Marvel has ever made” in an interview with IGN.

“it’s going to be amazing,” Brubaker said. “It’s gonna make a billion dollars. I got to go and be on set for awhile and watch them film and stuff. It was just amazing.”

There you have it folks, from the man whose work serves as the basis for Captain America: The Winter Soldier: “amazing.” No potential for self-aggrandizement there, right?

Of course, taking a look at the trailer, it sure as heckfire looks amazing!

Any follow-up movie the upcoming sequel to Captain America: The First Avenger would have to feature Chris Evans in the titular role. Of course Samuel L. Jackson would need to be there in support as Nick Fury (unless they wanted to retcon David Hasselhoff in there) and Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff, better known as “the Black Widow.” The rest all depends on how Winter Soldier plays out.

What do you think about the rumors of Captain America 3 being in the works?
